Potty training
As you all know Caitlin was born with bladder exstrophy and since her reconstruction surgery she has been doing well. We are so proud that one of the many milestones she has accomplished (well in progress) is she went to bathroom to void a few times in a day. This is great considering she hasn't used her bladder muscles and has to get use to it. This means she can now start to tell when her bladder is full somewhat. The plan is to bring her to potty every two hours and measure, we will see how this goes.

Hi Shannon,
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I visited your blog. I came across it when I was searching on the internet on how to potty (poo) train children with Bladder Extrophy. Your blog is very inspiring and gave me reassurance that I am not alone in this journey.
My son is 3 yrs old and was born with Classic Bladder Extrophy , he has underwent 2 major surgeries so far the last being (Epispadias repair) . I am struggling with poo training for my son. I wanted to seek your advise on this :) . Thank you.

Hi,
DeleteI'm sorry I'm just now getting this. I m glad you seen my blog I haven't updated in while but things are going well with my daughter who is now 5. We did potty training for bowel movement about age of your son. The advice I can give is be patient it's hard for both of you, what I did was take my little one to potty when knew she was having BM ( try to see if your son has set time he may go and bring to potty). They also have to show interest and readiness. He will do well. You are not along in this you can also join group on Facebook if you have it called bladder exstrophy has lots of support on many topics. Good luck and your son will do well. Thank you Shannon
